The Secret Garden

Taken from the book 'The Trees from Dawn to Dusk'

by Gail Wareham

Come with me, there’s a place that I know,

A place of beauty, to you, I will show.

We’ll travel through time – go back through the years,

Close your eyes now, it is time, have no fears…

…Picture it now; Crinoline skirts,

Big woolen blankets, thrown on the ground.

Hampers of food, and pitchers of juice,

Games en-plein-air, all there to be found.

We should not be here, in this time that’s gone by,

So shush, please be quiet, crouch down and look out…

Smile as they laugh at the games they enjoy,

They won’t see us here – of that, I’ve no doubt.

Look out from the shadows, the sun’s shining bright.

See the rays flicker, through wind rustled branches.

This time of past years echoes out from our minds.

How is it true we feel these circumstances?

Have we been here before, did we live a life then?

Why hold such affection for eras bygone?

We watch what we see and we feel de ja vu,

An eerie, strange feeling, of moments long gone.

This journey we take is to The Secret Garden,

A place of our past, with memories so strong.

Most times this retreat is locked deep in our hearts,

We all have our own, where we really belong.

One touch, or quick sight, of an object or smell,

Takes us back in a moment, and we visit once more.

This place that’s subdued during days of new life,

But remains in our bones, an aura we adore.

Please do not ignore this connection we feel,

I beg you to keep it awake, and alive.

Keep visiting often, this blessing unseen,

It’s the past we have left, helping futures to thrive.

Entwined

by Gail Wareham

From Book 2... coming soon... 'The Trees - A Life of Moments'

A life of love and friendship,

Is a dream we think about,

But it cannot happen overnight,

It will take us time, no doubt.

Someone on whom we can lean against,

A tower of strength we do seek,

But it’s not always muscles that take heavy weight,

It is not that we search for physique.

If you’re lucky, you’ll find the right person,

And your roots will begin to entwine.

They will spread long and deep underneath you,

And your hearts will begin to align.

Like the roots in the soil, your arms hold on tight,

While soul mates begin to develop and grow.

Such strong emotions envelop your thoughts,

They slowly build up, and then overflow.

The two become one for all seasons,

Whilst others can only look on.

They cannot step in, they cannot dictate,

To this couple whose bond is so strong.
